The Big Move and a Black and White House- 3 Sept 2011

Haven't had much time since Thursday to do anything put unpack.  The container was a sight for sore eyes when it got there around 9 a.m. We had 6 small guys show up to move furniture and unpack boxes.  I had tears in my eyes when they opened up the back.

The boards were added after they left our house.  It was truly packed to the end.
We were actually shocked at how strong theses guys were and how hard they worked.  They had a smaller truck that they would load stuff onto from the container and then back up that truck directly in front of our door.  When they unloaded they would ask me what room and what floor.  We had a system down really well.  There were a lot of things that went into the closet under the staircase.  Everything had a number on it.  There were about 275 numbered boxes or pieces of furniture.  We wanted to put both the computer armoire and the tv armoire from Elliott's floor on the second floor with us.  But after we had them take the computer armoire up to the second floor, we decided that we wouldn't punish them with the tv one.  It's heavier.  We have now added that armoire to the living room collection even though it doesn't really go.

Here are just a few pictures of what it looked like on the first day after moving.

Here are some after pictures the second and third day.  It's beginning to look like home instead of the "Marble Mausoleum" as Ernie called it.

It was really a treat to open up some of the boxes and find the hidden suprises.  Like 60 bars of Lever 2000 soap and real paper towels and Bath and Body Works soap.  I'm sure there are many more suprises.  In retrospect, I wish we had gone ahead and bought a lot more things like Tide soap and more garbage bags and a whole pallet full of paper towels  and a whole pallet full of toilet paper.  We were allowed 2 containers and we only used one.  I could just kick myself for not doing it.  I took a picture of the toilet paper that I used to use.  They have a few rolls of it it.  Take a closer look at the price.
12 Rolls of soft Charmin for only $24.95  !!

Can you believe it?  We now use a cheaper brand.  Scott- I think.

Tonight is our last night at the compartment.  We will be moving into the house tomorrow for good.  Ernie and I have been cleaning the kitchen cabinets for two days. Scrubbing them more like it.  Some of these people have a lower standard of cleaning than we do.  But I can understand why.  It's just too hot to stay in the kitchen very long.  I can already tell that it will be too hot to cook too much as it has not Air Con in the kitchen.  If you leave the door open to the living room, it's not too bad.  But if you turn on the oven, I think it will get very hot.  Air Conditioning or TV for Christmas.  It's a toss up now.

Tonight we went to a Wine and Cheese Party for the EME folks.  It was held at an old "black and white" house that was built back in the 1800's while the British lived here and traded with the East. This one was being rented by an antique dealer.  They buy antiques in China and refurbish them here.  Of course the party is always held to get you to buy something.  I may go back and find some presents there.  They had several beautiful chinese buffets there.  I would really like to have one.  I already have a place picked out for it.  It may have to clash with my Galveston prints for now, but oh well.  Here's a copy of the website if you want to look at the buffets.  http://www.chinacollection.com.sg/

I like the  big red one.  The pictures on it were very unique.  The only thing that we left with were six bottles of wine that Ernie liked.  We had a hard time getting a cab home.  Being a Saturday night, everyone was needing a cab.  One of the men that Ernie works with helped us put an app on my phone to make it easy to get a cab.  The cab had a hard time finding the place, so he called and I had a hard time understanding him.  Finally, we must have communicated because he found his way to us.

That's all for now.  Tommorow we'll be unpacking some more boxes and getting ready for Monday.  I have my first PTA meeting to attend and we have the internet, tv, telephone guy is coming at 2.  Hopefully, we'll be set up by the evening.  We'll see.  You'll be the first to know.

Much love to all,

Trece
